32 mednarodnih zmag 32 international victories

Ludvik Starič earned his nickname “Leteči Kranjec” (Flying Carniolan) by beating a world-class field featuring England’s Beckett, Denmark’s Sörensen and Austria’s Kolmayer in an international speedway race in Zagreb in 1933. A car mechanic and trucker by trade, Startič began competing in road races before moving to the then obscure sport of dirt track racing, a predecessor to modern-day speedway. Starič quickly made it among the best in Europe, racking up victories in competitions in Prague, Pardubic, Plzen, Vienna, Paris, Sofia and Wroclaw… He would finish his career with 32 wins in all. He was involved in a serious fall in Pardubic, which saw him comatose for 12 days, but he would return to his winning ways after a two-year layoff. After World War II he became a pilot.
