Miro Steržaj je svojo športno pot začel, ko ga je življenska pot zanesla v Ljutomer, tam pa v nogometni kegljaški klub. Ko se je vrnil od vojakov, se je posvetil kegljanju in se že leta 1955 z odličnimi dosežki uvrstil v reprezentanco Jugoslavije, katere ogrodje so tedaj tvorili Slovenci (npr. Tomo Martelanc, Franc Mlakar, Leon Grom in Jože Turk). V njej je vztrajal 30 let ter osvojil skupaj 17 kolajn na 15 EP in SP, na katerih je nastopil. Zadnjo (bronasto) z ekipo na SP 1984 v ljubljanski dvorani Tivoli. Nastopal je tudi za KK Branik in KK Radenska. Za odlične športne dosežke in prispevek k razvoju kegljaškega športa je prejel tudi Bloudkovo nagrado.

Miro Sterzaj started his sporting career while living in Ljutomer where he crossed path with the football bowling club. When he finished the military service he focused on bowling and in 1955 he qualified for the national team of Yugoslavia due to his excellent achievements. The team was based mostly on Slovenians (Tomo Martelanc, Franc Mlakar, Leon Grom and Joze Turk). He competed for the team for 30 years and won a total of 17 medals at 15 European and World championships that he took part in. He won the last medal (bronze) with the team at the World Championships 1984 in the Tivoli Hall in Ljubljana. He also competed for the clubs Branik and Radenska. Due to his great sports achievements and contribution to the development of the bowling sport he also received the Bloudek Award.
