Prvega selektorja »risov« v samostojni Sloveniji so leta 2009 v Bernu sprejeli v svetovni hokejski hram slavnih.

Hiti saw rapid progress through the junior ranks to join the Jesenice first team and the national team, which he was a member of at the Winter Olympics in 1968 and 1972. In 1970, a broken jaw prevented him from becoming the first Slovene to sign with an NHL team (Chicago Blackhawks). He would move to Olimpija of Ljubljana and in the 1970s helped develop ice hockey in the Slovenian capital. He subsequently spent several seasons in Italian clubs, winning three Italian titles with Bolzano. He eventually returned to Jesenice, where he won a national title before retiring. He would go on to be active in coaching. He was the first head-coach of the Slovenian national team, “the Lynx”, and was inducted into the World Ice Hockey Hall of Fame in Bern in 2009.
