Alenka Cuderman went down in the history of Slovenian sports as the first woman athlete to win an Olympic gold medal. She won the most coveted medal in sports as a member of the Yugoslav handball team in Los Angeles in 1984. The crowning achievement of her illustrious career as a member of the national team (1979–1987) came after she previously won bronze (Prishtina 1979) and silver (Montreal 1981) at the World Youth Championships and bronze at the World Championships in Budapest in 1982. She began her club career in Preddvor (1972–1976), before moving to Olimpija of Ljubljana (1976–1980) and Radnički of Belgrade (1980–1984). As a member of the Serbian champions, she took part in four European Champions Cup competitions, lifting the title in 1984.
