Prvi namiznoteniški koraki v Hrastniku so povsem obrnili življenjsko zgodbo Edvarda Vecka.

The life of Edvard Vecko would take a major turn after he got his first taste of table tennis in Hrastnik. With his paddle in hand, he moved to Ljubljana to join Olimpija. After showcasing his talent by winning two gold medals at the European Youth Championships in Bled (indi-vidual and doubles), he became an important member of the star-packed Yugoslav team. Having won team medals at the World and European Championships, he achieved his best result in Lyon in 1968 by becoming European Champion in the doubles together with Antun Stipančić. Vecko, a glass-maker by training, dedicated his life to table tennis, taking up coaching after retiring from competition. With limited options to coach in Slovenia,
he went in search of work abroad, including to Germany, the Netherlands and Austria. Despite working abroad, he remained in touch with Slovenian table tennis and helped establish closer ties between Slovenian and German table tennis institutions.
